Methyl bromide is an ideal fumigant. Methyl bromide is widely used to control various insect pests. It is highly permeable to bulk materials and is effective at relatively low concentrations and even low temperatures. The short time of Methyl bromide fumigation, typically 2-24 hours, is advantageous for cross-area and residential treatment. Methyl bromide can control insect pests at all stages of growth and development, and no resistance has been reported in its 60 years of application. After fumigation, the gas diffuses rapidly, and the damage to the goods is controlled to the minimum degree. Because of the relatively low concentration, the insecticidal effect can be achieved, and the gas will not cause residue problems in the food. The fumigated inorganic bromine residues are generally within the acceptable range.
Quarantine applications and, in many cases, Methyl bromide is the treatment method accepted by most relevant authorities worldwide. Therefore, the use of methyl bromide for quarantine fumigation was excluded from the Montreal Convention.

Application method:
Seal the storehouse and all doors, Windows, air tunnels, tabernacle seams, etc., with paper, paste and plaster. Paste the best paper layer 3-5 layers. There should be no leakage, so as not to affect the efficacy. The edges of the tabernacle should be in contact with the ground level and compacted with soil or homemade sandbags. The entire tabernacle should be tensed with nets or ropes to avoid damage to the tabernacle due to strong wind and affect the progress of fumigation.
Several bottles of medicine should be evenly placed in the warehouse according to the dosage. Because the bromine gas is heavier than the air, it is necessary to lead the drug guide tube to the upper part of the storehouse to spray the drug. The applicator will turn the valve of the bottle to spray the drug according to the distance from the storehouse door, and then the storehouse can be sealed. To apply the medicine outside the warehouse or the tabernacle, lead one end of the medicine guide tube into the high place of the fumigation room, and stand the medicine bottle on the weight scale to accurately control the dosage. After the application, pull out the medicine tube, seal the application hole, and close the bottle valve.
Matters needing attention:
○ An effective gas mask must be worn when dosing and dispersing. It is recommended to apply the drug outside the warehouse.
○ When applying medicine, the bottle should be placed in an upright position for a period of time, and the valve should be opened slowly. The bottle should not be recumbent or tilted.
Electric fans or fans can be placed in the fumigation space in advance to promote the gas flow and diffusion.
○ Methyl bromide is colorless and tasteless. Bromine lamp can be used to detect leakage during fumigation. When dispersing poison, it should also be determined to confirm no gas before entering warehouse without mask
○ For fumigation and poisoning, a warning area (at least 20 meters) should be set up around the warehouse, and a sign should be erected to keep sentry, and irrelevant personnel are not allowed to enter.
○ Fumigation is prohibited at night and on strong wind and heavy rain days.
○ Bromide users must be trained.
○ It is suggested to formulate a strict drug management system to prevent loss and harm.
○ Wear loose protective clothing and gloves that are not made of rubber.
